The WSI ESG Standard
At the heart of the Wind Sustainability Initiative is the ESG Standard — the first global framework defining what responsible, transparent, and sustainable practice means for the wind energy industry. It sets a harmonized foundation for manufacturers, developers, and financiers to embed accountability and ethical conduct across the wind supply chain
Key requirements
The WSI ESG Standard uses a risk-based approach to evaluate facilities across two core areas: ESG Management Systems and Human and Labour Rights.
Recognizing the complexity of wind turbine manufacturing, the scope of the standards focuses on the most material risks, with the ambition to expand coverage progressively over time.
Participating members are required to complete an ESG assessment and work with independent third-party auditors to identify high-risk areas within their operations. Facilities flagged as high risk undergo on-site ESG audits, ensuring that assurance is applied where it matters most.
